Thousands in Grant Money Is Available Each Year
For Qualified Undergraduate Brothers

In addition to all the other benefits that come from being a brother of Theta Chi, we’re proud that the Delta Chapter of Theta Chi at Rensselaer has, for more than a decade, had in place a significant scholarship program that is “one of a kind” at RPI.

In 1996, our Chapter's alumni board signed an agreement with RPI that established an endowment fund within the RPI general program, but which is dedicated to benefit only Delta Chapter undergraduates. This special fund has grown substantially over the years, through balanced investments, to where it now has over $320,000 available to generate annual earnings that can be used help brothers of Delta Chapter of Theta Chi through scholarship grants. For one recent academic year alone, six scholarship grants totaling more than $13,000 were awarded to help Delta Chapter brothers meet the cost of their RPI education. Since the program's inception, more than 41 deserving brothers have benefited from more the $82,000 in grants, with the number per year generally increasing as the fund has grown. And because these are outright grants - not loans - they do not need to be repaid.

Applicants must have “unmet financial need” based on Federal guidelines to qualify, as determined by RPI’s Financial Aid Office. A special Scholarship Committee of Delta Chapter composed of alumni and undergraduate brothers determines which undergraduate brothers receive grants, and in what amounts. RPI is not directly involved in the decisions - this is strictly conducted by the brothers of Delta Chapter of Theta Chi, for the brothers of Delta Chapter.

Decisions are based on need, grades, extracurriculars, and upholding the values of Theta Chi, which are weighted factors thoughtfully considered by the Committee. Applicants and recipients must live in the house. Members of any undergraduate class may apply. Applications must be submitted by mid-March; the Committee makes its decisions on or about April 1st.

And in addition to the Delta Chapter/RPI fund described above, our Chapter has a second fund available that's specially targeted to provide scholarship awards solely to new freshmen brothers!

We at Theta Chi take our education at RPI seriously, as demonstrated by these programs of financial assistance. We invite you to consider this fact with all of the other advantages of being a Theta Chi. It's another example of how we strive to live by our creed, based on our pledge to “lend a helping hand.”
